The textile industry has always been an important investment project in Argentina. In order to meet domestic demand, most of the investment is used to improve quality, reduce costs and expand the capacity of spinning machines. According to statistics released by Argentina National Bureau of statistics, the investment of textile industry in the country has increased year by year since 2004. The Argentina textile Promotion Foundation said that Argentina's textile industry invested 317 million US dollars in 2007, an increase of 48% over the same period in 2006. In 2008, Argentina spent an average of $263 per person on clothing and shoes.

Argentina's yarn, fabric and clothing account for the whole. Spin Industrial added value of 60%, of which fabric production is the most important, almost all textile products output 1/3. In the South American market, Argentina is an important producer and exporter of woollen fabrics, and sweater exports account for more than 1/3 of the total output. Exports of a small part of cotton textiles and cotton garments account for 1/6 of the total output.

The main raw material of Argentina's textile industry is cotton. Argentina has more than 140 cotton processing plants, 47 cotton manufacturers, including 25 weaving factories. During 2005~2009, the average annual cotton planting area in Argentina reached 313 thousand and 400 hectares, and the cotton harvest exceeded 407 thousand and 800 tons, producing about 136 thousand tons of cotton yarn. In 2008, the output of cotton was 506 thousand and 500 tons, and the production of cotton reached 165 thousand and 200 tons, of which 128 thousand tons were supplied to the domestic consumption market. Although domestic textile producers have increased demand for purchase, the low price of imported cotton from Brazil has become a problem that plagued Argentina's small and medium cotton producers.

In order to help small and medium producers, the government set up the national cotton fund in August 2008 and invested about $18 million to provide pesticides and fertilizers to reduce production costs and help producers cope with the impact of cheap textile imports such as Asia and Brazil.
