EU REACH Regulations Impact Jiaxing Textile And Garment Industry

However, with the emergence of REACH regulations and the frequent increase of SVHC, the European Union has quietly built up a "green" trade barrier in front of Jiaxing's textile and garment export enterprises.
It is understood that the REACH regulations are entitled "chemical registration, assessment, licensing and restriction regulations".
At the end of 2008, REACH issued the first list of 15 highly concerned substances list SVHC, of which 13 were related to textiles.
In December 2010, 8 additional substances of high concern were added.

The amount reached US $931 million, an increase of 8.84 percentage points over the same period last year.
Among them, exports to the EU 247 million US dollars, an increase of 5.42% over the same period, accounting for 26.5% of the total export volume of textiles and clothing.
"From the raw material processing to the finished products, the textile industry inevitably contains some chemicals.
In the short term, REACH regulations will bring certain impact to textile and garment enterprises.
The Municipal Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau responsible person said.
The impact is mainly reflected in three aspects.
First, the testing of chemicals in textiles has been greatly improved.
Cost
The price of qualified chemicals increases the direct cost of export commodities; two, it puts forward more stringent and strict requirements and restrictive measures for chemicals used in textile production. Three, the REACH regulations protect the interests of importers from law, and greatly increase the difficulty of exporting textile and clothing to the European Union.
It is understood that most enterprises in Jiaxing are right.
REACH
Laws and regulations do not pay enough attention, and even a considerable number of enterprises have never heard of REACH regulations.
The Jiaxing Municipal Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau has learned from SGS, an internationally renowned testing organization, that many enterprises in Jiaxing have actively tested the way to ensure that products can meet the requirements of the EU's REACH regulations. However, a considerable number of enterprises are passive testing.
SGS experts remind that as a textile and garment enterprise, it is necessary to keep abreast of the REACH regulations, grasp the relevant parts of the textile and garment enterprises, and penetrate into the production process, control product quality inspection from the source to meet the requirements of REACH regulations, so as to change the passive into the initiative.
