Leather Industry

In 2008, China's leather industry, like the overall economic situation, is still in a period of rapid development, but at the same time, it has entered a period of contradiction.

Some people call it the "turning point" of China's leather industry, which has been called "cold current", and "storm" and "crisis".

In the international trade, with the increasing export of leather products, the increasing degree of internationalization, the increasing pressure of international competition and the increasing number of trade frictions, the anti-dumping regulations, restrictions on harmful substances and various technical barriers to trade of leather products in China continue to increase.

In China, a series of macro-control policies have been promulgated in order to control the trade surplus and promote the balance of foreign trade. The policy of canceling the export tax rebates for leather processing trade and reducing the export tax rebates for leather products, fur and products such as shoes, bags, and other products have been promulgated. The RMB has appreciated continuously, and the cost of raw materials, energy and labor has remained high, and the cost of energy saving and emission reduction and social responsibility has been increasing. All these have brought severe challenges to China's leather industry in rapid development.

The above factors also have a greater impact on the export oriented leather industry in Guangdong province.

According to statistics, in 2007, the gross value of leather, fur and feather (velvet) and products industry in Guangdong province was 97 billion 940 million yuan, an increase of 19.8% over 2006. That is, the leather industry in the whole province maintained a two digit growth rate in 2007, but the growth rate slowed down, while the output of some products decreased, such as the production of leather shoes was 920 million pairs, which was 10.2% lower than that in 2006. Footwear exports (including the European Union) still had a large increase, with a total export of 3 billion 550 million pairs, an increase of 11.4% over 2006, and 340 million 340 million of the EU, accounting for 9.5%, an increase of 27% over the previous year.

We should soberly realize that our leather industry, which has experienced rapid growth for many years and is facing new challenges, should not unilaterally pursue the quantity, output value and speed of growth. Instead, we should pay more attention to quality, efficiency, energy conservation and environmental protection. Through technological progress and technological pformation, we can change from extensive to intensive, from extensive to connotative, and from quantity to quality to efficiency.
