Last month, British retail spending stagnated because of the changing weather in the country and the public holidays that were later than in previous years, all of which inhibited sales of furniture and school clothing and equipment.

The British Retail Alliance said that retail spending rose by only 0.1% in August, the smallest increase since April, while the figure rose by 2.2% in July.

Sales in August increased by 1.4% after adjustment in the commercial street prices.

This BRC survey is more recent than July.

Official data

More gloomy.

However, the data of BDO, which was published by accounting firm last week, is particularly bad. BDO data show that the decline in British retail sales in August was the biggest since the 2008 financial crisis.

BRC also said that it should be the same store in August.

Retail sales

It was down 1% from the same period in the previous year, compared with an increase of 1.2% in July.

The data excludes changes in store area and is favored by stock analysts.

One reason for the decrease in sales is that the bank holidays at the end of August are not within four weeks of the survey.

In general, British consumers use this holiday to buy children's clothing, to pay back to school, and to buy discounted furniture.

The hot weather at the end of August also hit the new autumn and winter season.

Latest fashion

Demand, especially boots.

Helen Dickinson, head of BRC, said retailers would hope to pull back the deficit in September, when they will begin to feel the impact of real wage increases.
